The title got me thinking like damn fine metaphor there, and then I was like wait there's an actual hyperbaric chamber?

Ha! I'll have to write a separate post on the chamber as it's a whole thing.... yes, yes, yes. There is an actual chamber. That my father chose to install right across from the fire place in the family room, no less.

A complex write about illness, connecting, recovery and Joyce's _Finnegan's Wake_ -- no easy novel to attempt in book club. Great to have you back online and well.

I feel like my club will be reading Finnegan's Wake for years!

No kidding. It was that way when I was asked to join a Ulysses club because of my expertise with the text: forever! and they had me doing most of the work, too. So, be careful and have fun with this ...

Ease in rapid recovery to you, Alicia. I would have jumped on that hyperbaric oxygen tank offer. Every branch of my healthcare team is integrative medicine based and a Cayenne pepper derivative, native spice to me, brought remarkable success. - I’m sure my parents view my suggestions similarly, as they’ve only embraced infrared therapy. Hugs.

Oh, my dad is a big fan of infrared therapy too!! He's all about that and the tank. Thank you for the well wishes! I'll be on my feet soon... I've read so much about not overdoing it after COVID (to avoid long COVID) that I was nervous to push myself too fast.

You’re doing it right. 💖 ... of the few I know experiencing COVID, my uncle’s husband had it bad and relapsed, then contracted it again. Heal to you feel gathered and good with it. All here, I’m sure, look forward to hearing you’re back in action. Happy full moon

I dare say that you're not missing much in Guanacaste. I suppose that rigorous life experiences may not add to the writer's soul, and if that's all you're after, Guanacaste is fine - you land at Liberia, and a half hour or so puts you on a Pacific beach in a placid, soulless beach town with no local color. That might be good for concentrating on writing technique, but I'm here to say that as a nonwriter I found it utterly boring.

An experience that challenges all the senses is to be found only a couple hours north over the border in Nicaragua. The beach scene in San Juan del Sur, if you must have beaches, is far more interesting and varied. Another hour or so and you can check out Ometepe, an island in Nicaragua's largest lake, and I could definitely see it being the venue for a writer's convention. Or check out the maws of hell in Volcan Masaya; a short walk to the top of the caldera and you can look down upon your fate if you have lived my sort of life.

But that's me. You're stuck at home with Covid, and of course that sucks more than Guanacaste.

That does make me feel better! At least the snow is pretty at home. Although that’s just added to my feeling stir crazy.

i've just had Covid again myself, it's pretty horrible. I wish you better. Hopefully the climate in LIberia will help. Where can I buy that helmet?

That’s a good question! I’ll have to ask my father. It’s quite the contraption. I’m so sorry you’ve had it again, too. This variant is terrible.

Indeed. I didn't even realise it was Covid at the time, just felt tired and depressed with a nose like a tap. Do take it easy, won't you. This variant isn't messing about.

It really isn't! I'm sad to have missed my trip but I think easing back into life has been the right call. Just now feeling like I'm getting half my energy and mental clarity back.

I'm sorry you had to forego your trip, but health comes first. I am pretty sure I'd get no writing done at all on a writing retreat. I'd want to go for walks instead 😁

I'm sorry to hear you're still sick! I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Amy! I am feeling better, just decided against the trip so I could fully get my energy back... I’m about to break out of this house and go grocery shopping because the cabin fever is my biggest problem now 😅

So darned sorry! COVID is no fun ( and I know, because I had fun once...) Any guesses, Alicia, as to specifically where/how you caught this virus again? I am old and pretty much stay home, so I have not yet had a bout with COVID. I am still gather information to try to avoid the known hazards....

You’re lucky!! I had a busy weekend of running around shopping and grocery shopping when it was freezing out... was probably in just a crowded indoor space. Nothing too exciting. Reminds me of when I caught mono in high school. I didn’t even get it “the fun way” by kissing a boy. 😅

Me,too! Major bummer. Well... at least it got me out of playing field hockey and sweating through calisthenics...

Ok, don't overdo it and get yourself a nice treat.
